Destination

Granada lies along the coast of enormous Lake Nicaragua and serves as a major tourist hub within Nicaragua. The city was originally founded by Hernández de Córdoba in 1524 and today is one of Nicaragua’s most important cities. The heavy influence of the Spanish crown and Catholic church are easily evident in the Colonial-era architecture and in some of Granada’s top attractions, like the Catedral de Granada and the Iglesia de la Merced.

In addition to a thriving tourism sector, Granada’s economy has booming banana, organic coffee and plantain production, and the area is fast becoming known for its cacao – and the ChocoMuseo has become a must-see destination for many visitors.
