Amazon Jungle Adventure

Venture into Brazil’s Amazon region to swim with pink dolphins, go boating and fishing, tour the capital of Manaus and much more.

About Your Trip

Experience Brazilian city and jungle life on this DreamTrip deep into the Amazon region — a journey that’ll delight with both cultural and natural wonders. Stay at an eco-resort in Manaus, the capital of Amazonas, and a riverside lodge tucked under jungle tree canopy. At Juma Amazon Lodge, go canoeing, look for caiman (reptiles similar to alligators), take jungle hikes, go piranha fishing and climb trees. In Manaus, where you’ll begin and end your journey, take a city tour and at nearby Lake Acajatuba, swim with rare freshwater pink dolphins and visit an indigenous tribe.

What we love:
• Late 19th- and early 20th-century rubber tycoons dreamed of transforming Manaus into a European-style city, dubbing it the “Paris of the Tropics.”
• En route to the Juma Amazon Lodge, see the Meeting of the Waters, where the Solimões River’s sandy-colored waters and the Negro River’s nearly black waters converge, then run side by side without mixing for several miles.
• The Juma Amazon Lodge has no Wi-Fi and no in-room telephones or televisions, providing a truly relaxing, “away from it all” holiday.

Check out this DreamTrip on Facebook.

This trip will close by October 23.

Destination

Manaus sits on the banks of the Rio Negro in northern Brazil. It’s an incongruous, bustling city of some 2 million people jutting out of the Amazon rain forest. The city was founded in 1693 as a fort, and became a town in 1832 with its current name — an alternate spelling of Manaós, the indigenous local tribe. Manaus’ geographic isolation makes it difficult to access except via boat or airplane. It boasts a cathedral, opera house, zoological and botanical gardens, an eco-park and several museums. The city’s vibrant cultural life fuels numerous festivals (jazz, opera, folklore, film and more) throughout the year. Manaus and the area to its north are home to the pied tamarin, a monkey that is one of the most endangered primates in Brazil.
