Explore Buenos Aires’ Eclectic Culture

Discover the extraordinary landmarks, cuisine, art and archicture that can only be found in the spirited city of Buenos Aires.

About Your Trip

Get a true taste of Argentinian culture with this DreamTrip to vibrant Buenos Aires. Your first exciting outing is a guided tour of some of the most popular sites in the city, including the Recoleta and Palermo districts, home to the city zoo, a planetarium and numerous gardens and parks. Continue to Plaza de Mayo, with landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, May Pyramid and many historic government buildings. Other highlights include San Telmo — filled with colonial buildings, cobblestone streets and antique shops — and La Boca, an area marked by its colorful houses and strong European flair. Your tour will end at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest coffee shop in the country, where you’ll savor churros and a cup of hot chocolate.

Also take advantage of your downtime to visit great sites including the Basilica del Santisimo Sacramento church, a gorgeous example of the city’s eclectic influences and home to one of the finest pipe organs in the world. You’ll also want to check out the trendy Puerto Madero community, packed with restaurants, bars, shops and dazzling city lights that illuminate the port at night.

On your final night, enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience at Cafe de los Angelitos, a lively restaurant that features arguably the best show in Buenos Aires. Revel in dinner and drinks with your fellow DreamTrippers, while watching a top-notch performance of the lively tango, a popular regional dance on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

What we love:

• Buenos Aires has an edgy and active street-art community, attracting local, national and international artists to come work their magic on the city’s abandoned buildings and blank walls.
• La Recoleta Cemetery, the resting place of Eva Peron, numerous Argentinian presidents and many other national luminaries, has been noted by CNN and the BBC as among the world’s most beautiful cemeteries.
• Caminito, the most famous street in La Boca, is constantly alive and brimming with the energy of its street vendors, sidewalk tango dancers and rainbow-hued houses.

Destination

Sometimes referred to as the “Paris of South America,” Buenos Aires is a thriving metropolis with a multicultural heritage stemming from its open acceptance of immigrants since its founding. The city’s numerous foreign influences can easily be seen in its eclectic European-inspired architecture.

As a cultural epicenter of Latin America, the city is a leading patron of the arts and social enrichment. Buenos Aires boasts more bookstores per capita than any other city in the world, as well as the busiest live theater industry in Latin America. Numerous museums and art galleries dot the city, which is also an important center of contemporary street art, and Rio de la Plata is known for being the birthplace of the exhilarating tango.

Social gatherings commonly involve sharing a meal, and the local cuisine is a blend of indigenous and Mediterranean influences, with fare including asado (Argentinian barbecue) and the flavorful herb sauce chimichurri originating there.
