Native American Culture & Food

Visit Blake Island in Puget Sound and immerse yourself in the cuisine and customs of Washington’s indigenous culture.

About Your Trip

On this DreamTrip to Seattle, Washington, discover local indigenous customs, art and food during a half-day cultural tour of a Native America village. Relax during a narrated, 45-minute boat passage across the waters of Puget Sound to Blake Island. After disembarking at Tillicum Village, you will be greeted with a delicious clam nectar appetizer. Then, enter a rustic cedar longhouse and feast on a traditionally prepared buffet meal featuring fresh fish roasted over alder wood. Marvel at an invigorating live stage performance that combines the traditional storytelling, dances and songs of the Northwest Coast Indians. Browse the handcrafted art on display throughout the longhouse, and meet the performers after the show. Or, if you wish, visit the gift shop or explore the island’s beaches and forests before boarding the boat for your return cruise to Seattle.

What we love:
• According to legend, Blake Island was the birthplace of the Suquamish Tribe’s Chief Seattle, from whom the famous city gets its name.
• Puget Sound is a wildlife wonderland teeming with countless species of fish and seabirds, harbor seals and other marine mammals and bivalves such as Pacific oysters and geoduck clams. Some lucky visitors have even spotted bald eagles and killer whales!
• U.S. News & World Report listed Motif Seattle’s Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails among the 10 Best Rooftop Bars in the country.

Destination

In little more than 150 years, Seattle, Washington, has grown from a frontier settlement to the biggest city in the Pacific Northwest. The “Emerald City” regularly ranks high on lists of the country’s most livable cities, due in large part to its temperate marine climate, lush evergreen forests and a robust economy that is bolstered by some of the world’s most influential companies, including Microsoft®, Amazon and Starbucks®. Situated on the isthmus between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, Seattle boasts some of the freshest seafood imaginable. Landmarks include the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and The Museum of Pop Culture. Among its cultural contributions, Seattle is well known for its prolific music scene, which spawned the grunge rock movement of the 1990s and was the launch pad for acclaimed artists including Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles.
