Discover Croatia’s Culture & Cuisine

Discover Croatia’s cuisine and culture with tours of Vela Luka and Dubrovnik and an olive-picking excursion in the countryside.

About Your Trip

Surround yourself with fascinating culture and savor some of the country’s best cuisine on this DreamTrip to Croatia. Go on a guided walking tour through a Dalmatian garden, with tastings of a variety of homemade treats and special presentations on wild herbs and traditional soap making. The next day, get treated to local delicacies and stroll the ancient streets of Vela Luka. See famous sites such as the House of Marco Polo and St. Mark’s Cathedral. End your day with a visit to Etno kuca Barilo, a folk museum featuring artifacts that epitomize the heritage of local peasant families.

Pick your own delicious Greek olives on an excursion to peaceful olive groves, where you will use traditional tools to harvest olives, enjoy a picnic lunch and visit an olive-oil refinery to see how the treasured oil is produced. Then, experience scenic Dubrovnik during a full-day tour, featuring a stop at Franjo Tudman Bridge — an impressive cable-stayed bridge that stretches 1,700 feet (518 meters) — to marvel at the panoramic views of the city. Stroll through Old Town, surrounded by nearly 1.5 miles (2 kilometers) of medieval stone walls, turrets and towers from the 16th century. Enjoy the afternoon exploring Dubrovnik on your own, perhaps going on a cable-car ride or visiting the Walls of Ston (at your own expense).

What we love:
• The seaside city of Dubrovnik, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.
• Many believe that Korcula — rather than Venice — is the birthplace of Marco Polo, one of the greatest explorers and merchant travelers in history. This has yet to be proven, but serves as an interesting topic of conversation and debate.
• Etno kuca Barilo showcases approximately 3,000 objects once used in the everyday lives of families in Korcula, including everything from cookware, pottery and agricultural tools to portraits, handmade clothing and furniture.

Destination

Ocean air breezes through charming locales on the Croatian isle of Korcula. Although ancient legends claim that Antenor, a mythological Trojan hero, founded Korcula, archaeologists have discovered inhabitants of the region date back to the Neolithic era. Medieval buildings stand proudly, representing the town’s cultural love of stonemasonry and its extensive history as a fortified village. Common tourist stops include St. Mark’s Cathedral, Korcula Town Museum and the House of Marco Polo.

Dubrovnik is packed with historical significance and modern culture. Walk along the ancient city walls of Dubrovnik's Old Town for breathtaking views and a window to the past. Popular attractions include the Walls of Ston, Rector’s Palace and nearby Lokrum Island.
