Discover the Beauty of Osaka

Get away to the “Land of the Rising Sun” with tours of Mt. Koya and Kyoto, offering glimpses into Buddhism and ancient temples.

About Your Trip

Explore ancient and modern Japan on this DreamTrip to the “Land of the Rising Sun.” Travel to the exotic and wondrous Mt. Koya region, known as a significant site for Shingon Buddhism. See the beautiful Kongobuji Temple and the lovely gilded sliding doors with detailed paintings of cranes, plums and willows. Then, you’ll stop at Okunoin, the famous site of the mausoleum for Kobo Daishi, considered an iconic grand master for Buddhist teachings.

The next day, get ready for a full-day adventure in Kyoto. Your 1st intriguing stop is Kiyomizu-dera Temple, where you can take in beautiful views of the city from its verandas. Then, you’ll visit the visually impressive Fushimi Inari Shrine in southern Kyoto. Walk the mystical path of vermilion torii gates that guide you into a wooded forest. Participate in a fun-filled wagashi-making (ornate Japanese sweets) class with tea. End your day in the Arashiyama district, where you’ll discover its awe-inspiring bamboo grove.

In your free time, visit the famed Osaka Castle. Surrounded by cherry trees, gardens, moats and stone walls, Osaka Castle comprises 13 ancient structures that are considered Important Cultural Properties by the government, including Otemon Gate, Sengan Turret and a gun powder storehouse.

What we love:
• Mt. Koya is known as one of the 3 holiest mountains in Japan with its abundance of religious buildings.
• A popular purchase by tourists visiting Japan is an omiyage, typically a special boxed food item; different from a souvenir, the omiyage is given as a gift rather than kept as a memento.
• Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a tranquil place where one gets in touch with the tenets of Buddhist meditation and can even see a stone engraved with the footprints of Buddha.

Destination

Situated in the Kansai region, Osaka is the 2nd-smallest prefecture in Japan but it boasts the country’s 3rd-largest population. Surrounded by the Tokyo mountains and Osaka Bay, its natural scenery and unique culture are key ingredients to the city’s economic success. Popular attractions include Osaka Castle, numerous temples and shrines, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, and the National Museum of Art, Osaka. Historically a merchant city, Osaka earned its name as the “nation’s kitchen” for serving as a rice-trading center during the Edo period. Its world-famous cuisine includes takoyaki (fried octopus), udon (noodle dish), traditional oshizushi (pressed sushi) and more. The city is also known for its fine sake, made with freshwater from the prefecture’s mountains. Osaka is home to more than 35,000 wholesale and resale shops, mostly located in Chuo and Kita, 2 of the city’s 24 wards.
