DreamBreak: Thessaloniki, Greece

Introducing DreamBreaks: Treat yourself to a weekend at a hotel in Thessaloniki, a food-sampling tour and fun, self-guided activities.

About Your Trip

Escape the everyday with a well-deserved weekend in Thessaloniki, Greece. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, our new DreamBreak travel option offers you a fresh way to experience your DreamTrips™ Membership, starting with a 2-night stay at a stylish hotel and an afternoon tour of local food markets — delicious samples included. With some expert help from a city insider, the rest is up to you! This DreamBreak does not include an In-destination Support team member so you can create your own adventures, your way.

Famous monuments and archaeological sites draw thousands of visitors to the gorgeous port city of Thessaloniki every year. As compelling as its history under Ottoman, Byzantine and Roman rule, the city’s temperate climate is equally alluring, allowing guests to walk its ancient streets year-round.

You can plan the best use of your free time with the help of a city insider during breakfast on Day 2. Get tips and tricks and learn more about your upcoming “Taste of Thessaloniki” tour — then head out to discover culinary masterpieces.

Kick-start your tour with strong, flavorful Greek coffee, then try a delicious bougatsa — phyllo-wrapped breakfast pastries filled with cheese, custard or minced meat. Leave room to sample other fares, including olives, cheese and koulouri — bread rings baked with sesame seeds on top — and the regional treats of a traditional meze platter. Refresh with an ouzo aperitif and purchase souvenirs in the open-air markets (at your own expense).

Your “Taste of Thessaloniki tour” ends in the city center, leaving you in the perfect spot to explore at your own pace. Don’t miss your chance to stroll through immense galleries at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, home to thousands of artifacts from the Hellenistic, Roman, Classical and Archaic periods. Or, you could venture to Aristotelous Square, the Port of Thessaloniki or the Citadel. With plenty of time to explore, the choice is up to you!

What we love:
• During free time, visit the famed White Tower of Thessaloniki and the Church of Agios Dimitrios, a sacred Byzantine church and crypt dedicated to St. Demetrius.
• Not tired yet? Thessaloniki is home to many cultural events, including the Thessaloniki Film Festival and the International Trade Fair, and offers plenty of sights, museums and restaurants to explore, along with a vibrant nightlife.
• The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki features a wide variety of notable exhibits, including the statue of Harpocrates, the Head of Serapis, golden Medusa heads and the marble door from the Macedonian tomb of Agia Paraskevi.
