Chateaux & Wines in Scenic Loire Valley

Explore historic chateaux, taste delectable wines & marvel at gorgeous rural landscapes while staying at a luxury castle-hotel on this amazing Platinum DreamTrip.

About Your Trip

Let your imagination run wild during this special Platinum DreamTrip in Loire Valley, a region so exceptional it’s been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’re sure to agree as you travel a serene countryside of meandering rivers, medieval towns, sprawling vineyards and striking, historic chateaux (castles). Each chateau in the Loire Valley has its own incredible story, and you’ll visit a few of the grandest in the region during 2 different, fascinating outings. Your first excursion brings you to 15th-century Chateau de Nitray where you’ll sample some of the estate’s wine and learn about the vineyards and winemaking processes. You’ll also have time to look around beautiful grounds which feature a chapel, dovecote, landscaped park and cellar.

Be sure to have your camera ready for your next stop — Chateau de Chenonceau on River Cher, a remarkable castle once occupied by King Henri II. Spend some time there strolling the tranquil grounds and garden maze. Before leaving the estate, raise a glass and salut to another extraordinary wine-tasting experience in one of the most spectacular settings in the world. And the fun doesn’t end there! You’ll transfer next to Amboise — a small town where Leonardo da Vinci once lived — and end the day at Tours with a visit to its remarkable old town.

What we love:
• Owned by 17 families throughout the years, Chateau de Nitray has opened its doors to the public, allowing visitors to taste wine in its small, intimate cellar setting.
• Imagine living in a majestic castle and then being kicked out? That’s what happened to Diane of Poiters, the mistress of King Henri II, who gifted her with Chateau de Chenonceau. After the king’s death, his wife, Catherine of Medici, told Diane to leave so she could live in it instead!
• Tours, the main town in Loire Valley, boasts a well-preserved medieval district with timbered buildings in Place Plumereau, Basilica of St. Martin and the Tour de l'Horloge clock tower.

Destination

It’s not difficult to see why Loire Valley is nicknamed the "Garden of France," thanks to a verdant countryside of woods, farmlands and rivers. So attractive was this region that in the 16th century, French nobility decided to move in and build large mansions and garden estates. As we know it today, Loire Valley boasts more than 300 privately owned chateaux with 100 of them open to the public — 42 of these castles are also part of a UNESCO World Heritage site called Loire Valley between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes.

Montbazon is a village within Loire Valley on the Indre, a tributary of the Loire River. Its main attraction is the ancient castle of warrior Fulk Ill Nerra (Fulk the Black). Built in 1050 and mostly in ruins, it features one of the oldest dungeons in France.

Set on a hill that overlooks Indre River, this castle-hotel features manicured French-style gardens that are perfect for strolling.
