Explore Modern & Ancient Wonders in Yangon

Take in top cultural landmarks during 2 exciting tours, ride on a circular railway & enjoy self-guided activities at your hotel that features breathtaking views of Royal Lake.

About Your Trip

Discover the heart of Yangon, a city full of history and natural beauty where you’ll visit some of the region’s most heralded sites on this adventurous DreamTrip. Your full-day guided tour begins at Shwedagon Pagoda that was built more than 2,500 years ago and is completely covered in gold. The next stop is Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda, where you can marvel at the revered 213-foot-long (65-meter-long) reclining Buddha statue. You’ll also have time for shopping at Bogyoke Aung San Market, a bazaar full of unique souvenirs for family and friends back home.

You’ll get a glimpse into a different side of Yangon the following day as you learn about colonial-era buildings, Mahabandoola Park, Independence Monument and more. You’ll visit the General Post Office where you can send off a postcard to yourself or your family as a souvenir. End the day with a ride on the Circle Line train to see the city, meet locals and watch vendors hop on and off to sell their goods.

During leisure time, why not explore more of Yangon and the surrounding area at your own pace? Or, simply spend time at your hotel, swimming in the infinity pool, pampering yourself with a rejuvenating spa treatment or savoring delicious cuisine from one of the restaurants.

What we love:
• To say the enormous Shwedagon Pagoda is magnificent is an understatement — the shrine is covered in over 59,000 pounds (26,000 kilograms) of gold leaf. And the top of the stupa is encrusted with more than 4,000 diamonds.
• The city’s downtown is known for stunning colonial-era architecture that has been preserved by heritage groups — no skyscrapers here!
• Traditional dress in Yangon includes sarong-like garments for both men and women, and visitors to religious sites are encouraged to cover their shoulders and knees.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

This trip will close by December 10.

Destination

Yangon — called Rangoon during the British colonial era — was the longtime capital of Myanmar until the mid-2000s. It’s still the country’s largest city, not to mention Southwest Asia's major commercial hub. Thanks to milestone elections in 2012 that resulted in extensive political changes, the borders were opened to foreign travelers. A fascinating place to explore the many different faces of modern-day Myanmar, Yangon is home to an abundance of historical landmarks.

The city reflects its ethnic influences — British, Chinese and Indian among them — yet most of the population practices Buddhism, with pagodas and monasteries dotting the scenery. Take to the busy pedestrian street Anawrahta Road and you will notice wandering monks, rich colonial architecture, bustling markets and street food vendors. Visitors to Yangon are delighted by the range of cuisine, from samosas and curry to tea-leaf salad and fish rice.
