Borneo Wonders in Kuching

From cultural demonstrations to forest walks with orangutans, experience the varied delights of Kuching, Sarawak.

About Your Trip

Set along the Sarawak River, Kuching is Sarawak’s capital and flagship city, offering a stunning overview of the history and multi-ethnic heritage of this vibrant corner of Borneo. The residents of this midsized hub claim a dazzling diversity of backgrounds: Chinese, Indian and European immigrants mingle here with Malay and native Iban and Bidayuh peoples. All this makes for some fascinating cultural (and culinary) tourism.

This Sarawak DreamTrip gives you an incredibly thorough overview of Kuching’s cultural and historical attractions as well as a look at rural life outside the capital city. Your Kuching sightseeing includes a visit to the Sarawak Cultural Village, where you’ll see replicas of seven different kinds of traditional ethnic homes (from the Chinese Farm House to the Penan Hut and Orang Ulu longhouses) and attend a cultural dance presentation in the village’s theater. You’ll also see the stunning plant life of the Orchid Garden, cross the Sarawak River via sampan, take in Kuching landmarks (such as the White Rajahs, Chinatown, a Chinese temple and the Sarawak Museum), and journey outside the city to the charming little town of Siniawan, mostly populated by Chinese, which offers a lively weekend night market with locally made crafts and fantastic dining opportunities. A separate tour will bring you to the Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, where you’ll spot semi-wild orangutans (Borneo’s orange-haired great ape) in their natural habitat; en route back to Kuching, you’ll also visit the Sarawak Pottery Factory.
