Embrace Cultural Delights in Malaysia

Visit Malaysia’s charming capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and multiple UNESCO-protected landmarks in Malacca.

About Your Trip

Spend a full day enriching your worldview and discover why Kuala Lumpur is known as Malaysia’s cultural hub. Start with a photo opportunity outside of the 88-floor Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s tallest twin structures. Visit Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) with its historical buildings, Victoria Fountain and iconic flagpole. Check out photos, paintings and a large-scaled model of the city at the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery. Before lunch, stop by the globally renowned Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, which is home to the world’s largest free-flight, walk-in aviary. See the former national palace, Istana Negara, now known as the Royal Museum. Close out your action-packed adventure at the School of Hard Knocks, the world’s largest pewter maker.

Journey back in time as you travel southwest to Malacca, a popular destination thanks to an abundance of UNESCO-protected landmarks. Begin at A Famosa fort, built in 1511 and said to be one of the oldest European architectural remains in southeast Asia. Tour the nearby Stadthuys and Christ Church, which are excellent examples of Dutch architecture. Venture to St. Paul’s Church, a hilltop ruin, for panoramic views of the city. At Masjid Selat Melaka, you’ll marvel at this beautiful mosque built at sea level along the Strait of Melaka — when water levels are high, it to float! Walk the famed Jonker Street and take in its historical houses, shops and food stalls. Round out your day with a relaxing Melaka River cruise and a ride on a trishaw.

What we love:

• Malacca’s historic city center is designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
• Jonker Street is famous for its variety of delectable fare — enjoy the enticing fragrances of local favorites, including chicken rice balls, assam laksa, pineapple tarts and other traditional Nyonya cuisine.
• The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a museum set in a colonial-era building built more than 100 years ago.

Destination

Old and new collide in Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Metal high-rises tower over colorful markets. Hawkers peddle their wares on the steps of high-end shopping malls and modern restaurants. Malaysian tigers prowl the dense, exotic jungles just outside the city, and equally exotic islands are just a boat ride away.

Known as “KL” by local residents, Kuala Lumpur boasts an impressive array of sightseeing attractions, including the nearly 1,479-foot-tall (451-meter-tall) Petronas Twin Towers, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National Mosque of Malaysia. The cuisine is highly influenced by both Indian and Chinese flavors, though much of the street food reflects Javanese, Arabian, Thai, Sumatran and Japanese.

I understand that any such request made by the hotel is outside of the control of Rovia and is strictly a hotel policy. Should I have questions concerning the hotel’s policy, I accept responsibility for contacting the hotel independent of Rovia.
